This morning there was rumour going around on Twitter that some VMworld bloggers had received a DHL package with a mysterious device called the Flip. Viktor van den Berg over at the Dutch Vmug was the first one who broke the news. He received a small video camera with 2 GB of memory and software which enables uploading the video footage directly to YouTube. The first thing I thought was; there goes my video career. I started with filming events back in 2007, my first video recording was the VMware TSX 2007 keynote in NiceĀ featuring Richard Garsthagen, the same person whoās so kind to send all the bloggers a Flip. After that I got the hang of it and brought my camera to every major event. You can find my video footage at YouTube and Vimeo. I even won the VMware video contest and still enjoy my Alienware Laptop very much. Is this all goming to anĀ end? Every blogger is a potential video blogger now, or does it take more than a flip to become a video blogger? Of course it does, so Iām going to help all the flippers with some video production tips.
ā¢Ā Get physically close to your subject
ā¢Ā Film scenes using more than just one shot
ā¢Ā Film more than just your subject
ā¢Ā Film at the same height as your subject
ā¢Ā Control lighting
ā¢Ā Edit, and be ruthless while editing
ā¢Ā Experiment, and read the manual
Last but not least, letās thank VMware for this generous gift! So video bloggers, are you up for the competition? letās write history and put as much online as we can.
PS. Did you also receive the special VMworld customized HD edition?
