In the free VMware Integrated OpenStack Fundamentals course, you will learn how VMware supports the open-source and industry standard OpenStack framework for managing public and private clouds.

This course covers the features and advantages of VMware Integrated OpenStack. It also covers the basic architecture, explains how to deploy and manage cloud-based IaaS, demonstrates the unique advantages that VMware brings to OpenStack, and describes the new features available in the latest release, including container management built on Kubernetes.

This course is designed to be used with a hands-on lab, giving you the opportunity to use VMware Integrated OpenStack in a live deployment. While working through the hands-on labs is not a requirement for completing this course, the labs will provide a very clear and deep understanding of the advantages of VMware Integrated OpenStack.

Desktop Watermark is a Windows native application that adds a watermark to a desktop for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) auditing or exhibition purposes. A watermark has the ability to be visible or invisible.


Invisible watermarks, seen in the screenshot, can be revealed by a tool bundled in the Fling. The tool should be configured by an administrator and enforced on the end user's desktop.

The NAKIVO Virtual Appliance (VA) has two disks: the first one (20 GB) contains the Linux OS with NAKIVO Backup & Replication, and the second one (500 GB) is used as a backup repository.

If you deploy the Virtual Appliance disks using the Thin Provision option, then the disks will not reserve space on your datastore and will only consume space when actual data (such as your backups) is written to disks.

The NSX Manager contains many tools to help customers in conjunction with Global Support Services to resolve operational issues. The NSX for vSphere 6.x product features a customized command line interface that covers most of the basics that the user interface does and a little bit more.

On occasion, it may become necessary to use a regular unix command line interpreter (shell) to be able to deal with unanticipated configuration issues.

In these cases it is required that customers use this shell in conjunction with tech support to avoid inadvertently changing the virtual appliance in such a way that we can no longer support it properly.

In this paper, an online transaction processing (OLTP) benchmark, DVD Store 3, is used to characterize performance and power across five generations of 4-socket Intel servers hosting monster-sized Microsoft SQL Server 2016 database VMs.

The results show vSphere is capable of fully utilizing current-generation server and storage technology, achieving great database performance.


SQL Server workloads achieve excellent performance with vSphere 6.5 on top of today’s massively multi-core, large memory server hardware.

Some key best practices based on these results include: rightsizing a virtual machine’s vCPUs and Cores per Socket is essential to achieving maximum throughput; VMFS performs just as well as RDM, even for high I/O OLTP workloads; and this workload should not be considered a candidate for high Latency Sensitivity.
