Het Amerikaanse tijdschift Network World heeft een uitgebreid aritikel over esxRanger.

Vizioncore, a start-up backed by management product vendor Quest Software, says it can eliminate the complexity of using VMware virtual machines for disaster recovery.
The company is selling a Windows-based tool called esxRanger designed to allow IT administrators to set policies for backing up and restoring virtual files.
The product can be used to schedule hot backups of VMware ESX Server virtual machines - software files that contain an operating system, application and related data, and are separated from the underlying hardware. The backed-up files are compressed to make more efficient use of bandwidth and storage hardware, says David Bieneman, founder and CEO of Vizioncore. Lees verder op Network World.

Microsoft heeft een aardige tool ontwikkeld om geheugen lekken binnen IIS op te sporen, tevens kan deze tool een analyse uitvoeren nadat de IIS server spontaan is gestopt. Wanneer bijvoorbeeld een geheugen lek wordt opgespoord, vindt er eerst een meting van minimaal 15 minuten plaats, daarna wordt de analyse uitgevoerd en wordt een uitgebreid rapport gemaakt.

Af en toe ben je wel eens benieuwd wat het googelen naar je eigen naam oplevert. Nadat ik dit weer eens gedaan had, kwam ik erachter dat het alweer negen jaar geleden is dat ik de virtuele gokkast van Radio 538 had gekraakt, deze hack werd destijds gepubliceerd door Francisco van Jole in de Daily Planet. Het hacken begon overigens al veel eerder aangespoord door het blad Hacktic waarvan ik het eerste exemplaar uit 1989 nog steeds in mijn boekenkast heb staan. Hieronder staan de beide artikelen uit de DAILY PLANET van donderdag 19 september 1996.

This new book is updated for all the new versions of VMware products. It is based on VMware Workstation version 5 and all the tips and procedures have been updated for this latest version.
New topics include: Multiple Snapshots, Teaming virtual machines and Linux installation and configuration. There is also a section that introduces VMware ACE.

esxRanger from vizioncore is software that can schedule online hot backups of guest OSs on VMware ESX Server. esxRanger can back up virtual machines (VMs) locally or across the WAN by compressing the disks before sending them to the destination server. You can schedule esxRanger to run using the standard Windows scheduler. You don't need agents on the ESX servers or the guest OSs.
