VMworld Europe 2009 Call For Participation
Each session should be designed for the duration of 45 minutes and will have an extra 15 minutes for Q&A. No session can run over 60 minutes and a hard stop will strictly be enforced. The session can be based on a PowerPoint presentation, but VMware will also allow for (live) demos. If you want to show more then just a PowerPoint, please make sure you specify this on the ‘AV and DEMO requirements’ field on step 3 of the submission process. The best chance to have your session selected is to have content that is unique, based on real world experiences that many attendees can learn from and have a speaker with preferably previous speaking experiences.
VMworld Europe 2009 Session Submission
Deadlines. VMware will accept submissions until January 16th. The sooner you submit your session, the better chance you have to get selected! VMware will publish the first group of selected session before January 7th.
Replicatetech’s RDA version 1.1 | much easier to setup
Last week I delivered a VMware Deploy Secure and Analyze course at the Global Knowledge training facilities in Nieuwegein ( 4.8 - 4.8 ) :-). At the end of the week I rolled out Replicatetech’s RDA version 1.1. This new version of the Datacenter Analyzer includes over 20 new features and enhancements, including:
• Easy wizard based setup - get up and running even faster!
• Larger scale support - RDA now supports much larger deployments.
• Highly detailed diagnostic analysis, helping you find and fix problems more quickly.
• Full support for ESXi
The wizard is a real improvement, just walk through the steps and you’re up and running before you know it. I analyzed 6 ESX 3.5 servers managed by one vCenter server. While the students were checking their environment, I took the opportunity to make some screenshot’s. Just click the picture to enlarge.

ESX 3.5 Driver CD might cause ESX Server 3.5 Update 3 to fail to boot
On hosts with ESX Server 3.5 Update 3 installed, installing either the e1000e or ixgbe driver using an ESX 3.5 Driver CD will cause the host to fail to boot properly. This issue will also occur on ESX Server 3.5 Update 2 hosts with these drivers installed when they are upgraded to Update 3. In both cases, the host will boot into a basic maintenance shell instead of booting the ESX Server software.
The driver CDs are not shipped with ESX Server 3.5, they are available as separate downloads. Users of ESX Server 3.5 Update 3 should not install these drivers and users of ESX Server 3.5 Update 2 should not upgrade to ESX Server 3.5 Update 3 if your ESX Server host has either of these driver CDs installed. Below is a list of driver CDs that will not work with ESX 3.5 Update 3: ESX 3.5 Driver CD for driver "e1000e" version 0.4.1.7 VMware ESX 3.5 Driver CD for driver "ixgbe" version 1.3.31.5.
Solution
Do not upgrade to ESX Server 3.5 Update 3 if you have used either of these driver CDs. Do not install these driver CDs if you are already using ESX Server 3.5 Update 3. VMware is preparing a new version of these driver CDs for ESX Server 3.5 Update 3.
If you have already encountered this issue and your server is not bootable, contact VMware technical support for assistance in restoring your system.
